Recording Problems

If your Pulsar Plus software activates but has no activity or signs of recording.

There are 2 signs of input into the Pulsar Plus.

One is the Activity Level Indicator moving up and down - if this happens then you have activity and can now change the software settings to record the input.

Another sign is the Red Recording Light coming on. If this occurs but there is no recording click here.

If there is absolutely no sign of input:

1 - The first thing to do is check your hardware setup. It should be setup in one of 2 ways -Click here to see diagrams of how it should be setup.

2 - Next check your sound card setup - Click here to see diagrams of how your sound card should be setup.

3 - Try moving the switch on the side of the Pulsar Plus (you may need a pen or paperclip to do this).

On playback of the recordings I can hear my voice but not the callers

1 - If you can hear your own voice but not the callers on recordings, move the switch on the Pulsar Plus box to the alternative position (you may need a pen or paperclip, etc to do this) and try again.

2 - Check that the Pulsar Plus is connected correctly

3 - Check that the soundcard settings are setup correctly.

Manual recording works but automatic recording does not

This is usually because you have the threshold settings at too high a level.

Click here to see how to change these settings.

Recordings are segmented

or

When I am recording calls the software asks me half way through the
call if “I wish to save” etc, why?

When using Automatic Recording the recordings are sometimes split incorrectly into several smaller files. This is because there has been a delay in the conversation and CTIPULSAR PLUS has interpreted this as being the end of the conversation and saves it as such.

If you have the "Prompt Before Saving" check box ticked on the main Pulsar Plus software screen, the Pulsar Plus reaches what it interprets is the end of a conversation and asks you if you wish to save.

By increasing the "Delay Before Recording Stops" value and adjusting the "Threshold level" this can be prevented.

Note. You may need to do some testing to find the most suitable value to suit you.

Interference on recordings / Bad quality

The quality of the recordings can be affected by various factors:

1 - The usual reason for poor quality on recordings or a loud buzzing noise is due to interference from a cordless phone or wireless product. If you wish to use this product on a cordless phone you will need to place the Pulsar Plus unit as far away as possible from it (we recommend a few meters).

2 - Using the curly cord connection rather than the line connection can give a better quality recording.

3 - If you are using a Codec that gives great compression, you will lose some quality, so try changing to a different one, for more information on Codecs and changing them in the software click here.

4 - Is your sound card setup correctly? Click here for sound card setup info.

5 - Finally you can try and move the switch on the Pulsar Plus unit itself.

The red recording light is on but it isn't recording

This usually means that the Pulsar has speech going through it and the USB / serial port is connected correctly but the 3.5mm Microphone jack is not.

If there is no speech on the Mic input of the sound card, then the "Activity Level Indicator" (bar graph) will not be moving, which also points to a connection problem.

Solution

- Check that the Pulsar Plus is connected correctly and that the audio lead is plugged into the Mic input (usually marked red) of the sound card. Also check the sound card settings on your PC so that you are recording from the Mic input.

NOTE. Some computers have 2 sound cards (one on the front and one on the back). If you pc has this try putting the 3.5 mm jack in the other sound card (red socket) and try again.

Sometimes the recording seem to start when the telephone rings

If you have installed the PULSAR PLUS via the handset method you can stop this happening by changing the settings of "Delay Before Recording Starts" to 3 (or more) and Activity Level to 75%.

If you have installed the PULSAR PLUS via the telephone line method you can not stop this happening.

When I am on the telephone, I can hear my conversation on the speakers

1. Check that the microphone lead that comes out of the Pulsar is plugged in to the microphone in port on you pc (Usually coloured Pink)

You may also need to mute the microphone by either selecting the mute function on the microphone volume or by simply turning the microphone volume level down low.
