Other Problems

When does it occur?
When opening the Pulsar Plus software

Why does it occur?
If another application is using the COM port that the PULSAR PLUS expects to use this error will occur. On first installation the PULSAR PLUS tries to use COM1. This port could be used by another piece of hardware plugged into your computer (via USB or Serial).

What can be done?
1 - Close the Pulsar Plus software

2 - Go to the folder where you have installed the Pulsar Plus software (default: C:/Program Files/Pulsar)

3 - Open the "pulsar.ini" file ( Pulsar.ini is a configuration settings file)

If you cannot see the pulsar.ini file:
Go to "Control Panel" under the start menu and then find "Folder Options". From here you must select the "View" tab and check the box which says "Show hidden files and folders". Also uncheck the box which says "Hide extensions for known file tyoes". After you have done this you should be able to see the "Pulsar.ini" file. Note. You can change these settings back after fixing the Pulsar problem.

4 - In the "Pulsar.ini file change the first line where it says“Port=1” to your new port number (see below to find the port number), for example you have the PULSAR PLUS hardware connected to COM6, the first line needs to say Port=6.

5 - Save the Pulsar.ini file, and restart the application.

To check what port number you have the Pulsar is connected on

1 - Go to your start menu and select "Control Panel"

2 - Open "Device Manager" (you might have to select "Classic View" on the left to see this)

3- Check under "Ports"and it should tell you the port number (if you have the USB-To-Serial adapter on it will be listed as this, as shown on the image to the left)

Error Message "Runtime Error 3343 - Unrecognised Database Format"

When you try to open the Playback screen or recording

When does it occur?
When opening the playback window (may also occur when recording)

Why does it occur?
The database file has been damaged; this may be through closing the application with the playback window open.

What can be done?

Solution 1

- You must have Microsoft Access (part of MS Office) on your computer for this solution to work. If you do not have MS Access installed please see solution 2.

- With the Pulsar Plus program closed, you must open the "pulsarRec.mdb" file. This is located in the file where you installed the Pulsar software (Default install file: C:/Program Files/Pulsar).

- This should then give a message telling you that the database needs to be repaired, therefore you can then let it attempt a repair. Once this has completed try and open the Pulsar Plus program again. If it has not worked you must attempt solution 2.

Solution 2

This solution is to replace the file ("pulsarrec.mdb") by copying the original from the installation disk to the application directory, or to completely reinstall the software.

- Make sure the Pulsar Plus program is closed.

- Put the Pulsar Plus disc into your computer and if an automatic prompt appears choose to "view files on disc". If not then go to your "My Computer" and right click the CD and choose "Open".

- Right click on the "pulsarrec.mdb" file and select "Copy".

- Now go to where you installed the Pulsar Plus software (default install directory is: "C:/program files/pulsar").

- Once in this folder you should see the file "pulsarrec.mdb". You can now replace this with the copied file (Go to "Edit" menu at the top of the window and select "Paste" - then say "Yes" to replacing the existing file".

Note. The recorded sound files will be unaffected. If this solution does not work you will have to completely uninstall the software and then reinstall it.
